Hold your device in the sky to observe and identify planets, stars and constellations using your phone screen. Take advantage of Astrolapp’s highly sensitive and highly precise Live mode, as well as a visually appealing and intuitive interface. The stars are drawn in their true color and given their names according to the International Astronomical Union. Optionally, the 88 official constellations are drawn with or without name tags. Use a powerful search function and let an arrow guide you to find any planet, star or constellation above your head.

By tapping on any star or planet, Astrolapp highlights the path across the sky that the celestial body follows during the night (or day). In addition, Astrolapp calculates the rise and set times of any celestial body by the minute and displays the current position data in tabular form on a separate pull-out display.

Astrolapp automatically detects your current position and uses it to calculate the starry sky as you see it. But if you want to know what the starry sky looks like halfway around the world, just use the built-in map to select another location.

In addition, Astrolapp will show you the current sky by default. However, if you are interested in what the sky will look like next month or if you want to plot planetary constellations during historical events decades or centuries ago, Astrolapp will get you there in seconds. Watch the sky change, fast moving!

As an alternative to direct mode or for devices without an integrated compass, Astrolapp offers a star-map mode. To switch between the two types of display, press the “3D” button. Both modes offer essentially the same information and functionality as described above.

Star-map-mode: An interactive star map in the style of an astronomical clock

This representation visualizes the mechanics of the solar system and the movements of stars and constellations during the day and year. This is achieved by a planar projection of the celestial sphere, as used in medieval astrolabes and astronomical clocks.

Astrolapp represents the celestial sphere as it would be seen by someone sitting at the north celestial pole. From this vantage point, the sun moves clockwise around the center of the plot, in one day, parallel to the celestial equator, just like on a 24 hour dial of a clock. . The Moon and the planets move a little more or less than a full circle per day, depending on their appropriate movement in the solar system.
